Why rent winter wear when you could just buy it?
Fair question.
If you travel somewhere cold often, love the coat and know you’ll wear it for years, buying might make perfect sense.
But for many of us in Singapore, winter wear has a slightly stranger life.
We buy a coat for one trip. Wear it for a week or two. Bring it home to the tropics. Clean it, store it, and hope it still makes sense for wherever we decide to go next.
Sometimes it does. But if the next trip is colder, warmer, wetter or simply calls for a completely different coat, suddenly the thing sitting in your wardrobe isn’t quite as useful as you thought.
That’s where renting makes sense.
Not every winter needs the same wardrobe
Renting winter wear lets you choose your outerwear based on the destination, temperature and conditions of each trip rather than relying on whatever you already own.
“Winter wear” sounds like one category until you start travelling.
January in Hokkaido is not December in London. Seoul in February is not autumn in Paris. A snowy countryside trip asks something very different of your clothes than a week spent wandering between museums, restaurants and cafés.
Temperature matters. So do wind, rain, snow, how much time you’ll spend outside and what you’ll actually be doing when you get there.
The serious down jacket that made perfect sense in sub-zero temperatures might feel excessive on a milder city trip. The wool coat you loved in Europe might not be what you reach for when the forecast says -10°C.
Renting means you can choose for the trip in front of you. A proper down jacket when you need one. A wool coat when you don’t. Something practical for one trip. Something a little more special for the next.

That’s a lot of wardrobe space for a few weeks a year
Winter clothes are not subtle about the amount of space they require.
Puffer jackets. Wool coats. Chunky knits. Scarves. All very useful when it’s 2°C outside. Considerably less useful when you’re back in Singapore.
And unlike clothes we wear here, winter pieces can spend months, sometimes years, waiting for their next outing. They still need somewhere to live in the meantime.
That’s a lot of wardrobe real estate for clothes you might only wear for a week or two at a time.
Buying can make sense. So can not buying.
A good winter coat can be expensive. That doesn’t make it a bad purchase.
If you adore it, wear it often and know it’ll travel with you for years, buy the coat.
But spending hundreds on something for one trip, then hoping the next destination happens to call for the same thing? You don’t necessarily have to.
Renting gives you another way to dress properly for the trip without turning every winter holiday into a permanent addition to your wardrobe.

This might be our favourite reason.
Renting also gives you permission to choose differently each time.
A beautifully cut wool coat for London. A serious puffer for Hokkaido. A colour or silhouette you’ve always wanted to wear but aren’t quite ready to give a permanent section of your wardrobe to.
Something practical when the trip calls for it. Something a little more fun when it doesn’t.
And yes, sometimes you simply don’t want to wear the same coat in every winter photo for the next five years. We consider that a perfectly legitimate reason.
The point isn’t to have more clothes. It’s to have the right wardrobe for this trip without needing to build a permanent winter wardrobe around every place you might someday visit.
Cleaning is one less thing to think about
The holiday ends. The suitcase comes home. Then comes the laundry, unpacking and the slightly optimistic promise that you’ll sort through all 1,400 photos this weekend.
Your winter coat doesn’t need to join the list.
